Dough

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water (110°F/43°C) with sugar and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, then add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Cook Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Pizza Assembly and Baking

  1. 8

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.

  2. 9

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll or stretch it into a 12-inch round.

  3. 10

    Add Sauce

Spread a thin layer of the prepared tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  4. 11

    Add Cheese and Bake

Layer the sliced fresh mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce and drizzle with olive oil. Carefully transfer the pizza to the hot pizza stone or baking sheet.

  5. 12

    Bake Pizza

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  6. 13

    Add Basil

Remove the pizza from the oven and top it with fresh basil leaves before slicing and serving.
