Kunefe Ingredients

Method

Kunefe Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Syrup

In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for about 10 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and add rosewater or orange blossom water. Allow to cool.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Kataifi

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). In a large bowl, take the shredded phyllo dough and gently separate the strands. Pour the melted butter over the kataifi and mix well to coat.

  3. 3

    Layer the Dough

In a round baking dish, spread half of the buttered kataifi at the bottom, pressing down to form a solid layer. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the kataifi, then cover with the remaining kataifi, pressing down gently.

  4. 4

    Bake the Kunefe

Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

  5. 5

    Add the Syrup

Once baked, remove from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup evenly over the hot kunefe. Allow it to soak for a few minutes.

  6. 6

    Serve

Garnish with chopped pistachios before slicing into wedges. Serve warm.
