Falafel Ingredients

Method

Falafel Preparation

  1. 1

    Soak Chickpeas

Soak the dried chickpeas in water overnight or for at least 8 hours. Drain and rinse before using.

  2. 2

    Make Falafel Mixture

In a food processor, combine the soaked chickpeas, parsley, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Blend until the mixture is coarse but combined. Do not over-blend.

  3. 3

    Form Falafel Balls

Using your hands, form the mixture into small balls or patties, about the size of a golf ball. Place on a plate.

  4. 4

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.

  5. 5

    Fry Falafel

Carefully drop the falafel balls into the hot oil in batches, frying for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
