Calamari

Marinara Sauce

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

In a large bowl, combine the cleaned and sliced calamari with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Toss to coat evenly.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate shallow dishes, place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs. Start by dredging the calamari in flour, shaking off any excess, then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs.

  3. 3

    Fry the Calamari

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded calamari in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried calamari to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 5

    Make the Sauce

Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir to combine and allow the sauce to simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 6

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the marinara sauce and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper as needed.
