Stuffed Grape Leaves

Method

Stuffed Grape Leaves Preparation

1

Prepare the Filling

In a large bowl, combine the long-grain rice, finely chopped onion, chopped parsley, chopped mint, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and let it sit for about 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

2

Prepare Grape Leaves

If using jarred grape leaves, rinse them under cold water to remove excess brine. Carefully separate the leaves and lay them flat on a clean surface.

3

Stuff the Grape Leaves

Take one grape leaf and place a tablespoon of the rice mixture at the base of the leaf. Fold in the sides over the filling and roll tightly from the base to the tip. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.

4

Arrange in Pot

In a large pot, place a few unused grape leaves at the bottom to prevent sticking. Arrange the stuffed grape leaves seam-side down in a single layer. Add the water or vegetable broth over the stuffed leaves, ensuring they are covered.

5

Cook the Stuffed Leaves

Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to low. Cover and simmer for about 40-45 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the leaves are cooked through.

Yogurt Sauce Preparation

6

Make the Yogurt Sauce

In a small bowl, combine the plain yogurt, minced garlic, grated cucumber, salt, and dried dill if using. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to serve.
