Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese Sticks

Take the mozzarella cheese sticks out of the refrigerator and place them on a plate. If desired, you can freeze them for 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during frying.

  2. 2

    Set Up the Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, and then coat it with the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat until all sticks are breaded.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can check the temperature using a thermometer or by dropping a breadcrumb in the oil; if it sizzles, it's ready.

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully place a few breaded cheese sticks in the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Repeat until all sticks are fried.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 7

    Cook the Sauce

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, salt, black pepper, sugar, and red pepper flakes to the saucepan. Stir to combine and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  3. 8

    Serve

Remove the marinara sauce from heat and serve it warm alongside the fried mozzarella sticks for dipping.
