Sambuca Ingredients

Method

Preparation Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare Anise Infusion

In a large pot, combine 2 cups of anise seeds with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes. This will extract the flavor from the anise seeds.

  2. 2

    Strain the Mixture

After simmering, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove the seeds. Allow the liquid to cool.

  3. 3

    Add Sugar

Once the anise infusion has cooled, return it to the pot, and add 2 cups of sugar. Heat gently while stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  4. 4

    Add Alcohol

Remove from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature. Once cooled, stir in 2 cups of high-proof alcohol.

  5. 5

    Prepare Black Sambuca (Optional)

For black sambuca, add 1 cup of coffee beans and 1 tablespoon of licorice root to the mixture after adding alcohol, stirring well to combine.

  6. 6

    Bottle and Age

Pour the sambuca into clean bottles and seal tightly. Let it age in a cool, dark place for at least 2 weeks to develop the flavors.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve chilled or at room temperature. Enjoy as a digestif or in cocktails!
