In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork until mostly smooth. Add oats, grated carrot, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Prepare the Veggie Patty Mixture

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties.

Form the Patties

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook each patty for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

Cook the Patties

Toast the burger buns if desired. Spread vegan mayo on the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, add the veggie patty, top with tomato slices, and finish with the top half of the bun.
