Method

Preparing the Beef Patties

  1. 1

    Forming the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Gently mix the ingredients until just combined. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty approximately ¾ inch thick.

  2. 2

    Chilling the Patties

Place the formed patties on a plate and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while grilling.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheating the Grill

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, around 400°F (200°C).

  2. 4

    Grilling the Patties

Once the grill is hot, place the beef patties on the grill. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes, or until the desired doneness is achieved (145°F for medium-rare, 160°F for medium).

  3. 5

    Adding Cheese

If adding cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.

Preparing the Toppings

  1. 6

    Lettuce, Tomato, and Onion

Wash the lettuce leaf and pat dry. Slice the tomato into thin rounds and slice the onion into rings.

  2. 7

    Cooking the Bacon (optional)

If adding bacon, cook it in a skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 8

    Toasting the Buns

Lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill for about 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

  2. 9

    Building the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a beef patty, followed by the lettuce, tomato, onion, and bacon if using. Top with the other half of the bun.
