Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, milk, and melted butter. Stir until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape the Muffins

Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it out to about 1-inch thickness. Use a round cutter to cut out muffins.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Place the cut muffins on a floured baking sheet. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Cook the Muffins

Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat. Cook the muffins for about 7-10 minutes on each side until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove the muffins from the heat and let them cool on a wire rack. Serve toasted with butter or your favorite toppings.
