Base Ingredients

Chocolate Flavor (optional)

Daily Feature Flavor (optional)

Method

Base Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Base Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of heavy cream, 1 cup of whole milk, 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Whisk together until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.

  2. 2

    Chill the Mixture

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, or overnight if possible, to allow the flavors to meld and the mixture to chill thoroughly.

Flavoring (if desired)

  1. 3

    Add Chocolate Flavor

If making chocolate ice cream, sift in 1 cup of cocoa powder and fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips into the chilled base mixture until well combined.

  2. 4

    Add Daily Feature Flavor

For a daily feature flavor, incorporate 1 cup of fruit puree or extract into the chilled base mixture and mix until even.

Churning and Freezing

  1. 5

    Churn the Ice Cream

Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually for about 20-25 minutes, until the mixture thickens and reaches a soft-serve consistency.

  2. 6

    Freeze the Ice Cream

Transfer the churned ice cream into an airtight container and smooth the top. Cover tightly and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
