Grub!

  1. 1

    Prepare the Shrimp

In a large bowl, combine the peeled and deveined jumbo shrimp with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Toss to coat the shrimp evenly with the seasonings. Set aside for about 15 minutes to marinate.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading Station

In a shallow dish, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg until smooth.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature for accuracy.

  4. 4

    Bread the Shrimp

Dip each piece of marinated shrimp into the buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, dredge each shrimp in the flour mixture, ensuring they are coated evenly. Shake off any excess flour.

  5. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Once the oil is hot, carefully add the breaded shrimp in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the fry’d shrimpies hot with lemon wedges on the side and your choice of side, such as fries or coleslaw.
