Batter and Dogs

Method

Preparation and Frying

  1. 1

    Prepare the Hot Dogs

Insert one wooden skewer into each hot dog, pushing it halfway through so it is secure.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Ensure there are no large lumps.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). You will need enough oil to fully submerge the corn doggies.

  5. 5

    Coat the Hot Dogs

Dip each skewered hot dog into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  6. 6

    Fry the Corn Doggies

Carefully place the battered hot dogs into the hot oil, cooking in batches if necessary. Fry for about 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Once cooked, remove the corn doggies from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite condiments.
