Shrimp and Coating
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Shrimp
In a large bowl, combine the peeled and deveined shrimp with buttermilk. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes to enhance flavor and tenderness.
- 2
Mix the Coating
In another bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. This will be the coating for the shrimp.
- 3
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature for best results.
- 5
Coat the Shrimp
Remove the shrimp from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dip each shrimp into the beaten egg, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
- 6
Fry the Shrimp
Carefully add the coated shrimp to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-4 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Do not overcrowd the pan.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Once the shrimp are cooked, remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
