Onion Ring Ingredients

Method

Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and cut them into thick slices, about 1/2 inch wide. Carefully separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well. Gradually whisk in the beer (or sparkling water) until the batter is smooth and has no lumps. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it's hot enough for frying (about 350°F or 175°C). You can check if the oil is ready by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles and bubbles, it's ready.

  4. 4

    Fry the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  5. 5

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
