Fried Breaded Provolone

Method

Fried Breaded Provolone

  1. 1

    Prepare the Provolone

Slice the provolone cheese into 1/2-inch thick pieces.

  2. 2

    Setup Breading Station

Place flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs in three separate bowls. Season the flour with salt and pepper.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese

Dredge each slice of provolone in flour, dip in beaten eggs, and then coat with breadcrumbs.

  4. 4

    Fry the Cheese

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, fry the breaded provolone slices for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 5

    Sauté Garlic

In a medium saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 7

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in chopped basil just before serving.

Pesto

  1. 8

    Blend Ingredients

In a food processor, combine the fresh basil leaves, pine nuts, minced garlic, and grated Parmesan cheese. Pulse until finely chopped.

  2. 9

    Add Olive Oil

With the processor running, slowly drizzle in the olive oil until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add salt and black pepper to taste.
