Sides & Breads
- 1
Prepare dough
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk warm water, plain yogurt, and olive oil. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- 2
Knead and develop dough
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle in a little more flour as needed.
- 3
First rise
Lightly oil a clean bowl and place the dough inside. Cover and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 60-90 minutes.
- 4
Prepare garlic butter
Meanwhile, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan and add 4 minced garlic cloves. Remove from heat and let the garlic infuse the butter.
- 5
Shape naan
Gently punch down the dough and divide into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into an 8- to 9-inch circle or teardrop shape on a lightly floured surface.
- 6
Cook naan
Preheat a heavy skillet (cast iron works well) over medium-high heat. Cook each naan about 1-2 minutes per side, until puffed and browned with blistered spots.
