Preparation of Coffee Base
- 1
Brew the Coffee
Brew 1 cup of strong espresso or coffee and allow it to cool. If desired, stir in 1 tablespoon of coffee liqueur for added flavor.
- 2
Prepare the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger cookie into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy. Arrange the dipped ladyfingers in a single layer at the bottom of a rectangular or square dish.
Preparation of Filling
- 3
Mix Egg Yolks and Sugar
In a mixing bowl, whisk together 3 egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until the mixture is light and creamy.
- 4
Incorporate Mascarpone
Gently fold in 16 oz of mascarpone cheese into the egg mixture until well combined and smooth.
- 5
Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- 6
Combine Mixtures
Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully blended.
Assembly and Topping
- 7
Layer the Filling
Spread half of the mascarpone filling over the layer of ladyfingers in the dish, smoothing it out evenly.
- 8
Add Another Layer
Repeat the process by dipping more ladyfingers in coffee and placing them on top of the mascarpone layer. Then, spread the remaining mascarpone filling on top.
- 9
Chill the Tiramisu
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- 10
Serve with Toppings
Before serving, dust the top with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
