Method
Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring about 4 liters of salted water to a boil.
- 2
Cook Spaghetti
Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of the pasta water.
Preparing Meat Sauce
- 4
Sauté Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add finely chopped onion, carrots, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
- 5
Add Garlic
Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, until fragrant.
- 6
Brown the Meat
Increase the heat to medium-high, add ground beef, and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
- 7
Incorporate Tomatoes
Stir in crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Mix well.
- 8
Season the Sauce
Add dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let it cook for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 9
Combine with Pasta
Once the sauce has thickened, add the drained spaghetti to the skillet. Toss well to combine, adding reserved pasta water as needed to reach desired consistency.
