Cook the Pasta

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt.

Add cavatelli pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8–10 minutes.

Drain and set aside, reserving 1/4 cup of pasta water.
Prepare the Sauce

In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat until butter is melted.

Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

Add sliced mushrooms and cook for 4–5 minutes until softened and lightly browned.

Add diced fresh tomatoes, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 5 minutes until tomatoes break down slightly.

Stir in heavy cream and reserved pasta water. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
Combine and Serve

Add cooked cavatelli to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for 1–2 more minutes until heated through.

Remove from heat and stir in chopped basil.

Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
