Method
Pulled Pork Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Spice Rub
In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create a spice rub.
- 2
Season the Pork
Rub the spice mixture generously all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is evenly coated.
- 3
Slow Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour apple cider vinegar over the pork. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and let it rest for a few minutes. Use two forks to shred the meat into pieces.
- 5
Combine with Barbecue Sauce
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with barbecue sauce. Allow it to warm for an additional 30 minutes on low.
Sandwich Assembly
- 6
Prepare the Buns
Lightly toast the hamburger buns if desired.
- 7
Assemble the Sandwiches
On the bottom half of each bun, place a generous portion of the pulled pork. Top with coleslaw and pickles. Place the top half of the bun on each sandwich.
- 8
Serve
Serve the pulled pork sandwiches warm with extra barbecue sauce on the side, if desired.
