Tourtière Filling

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Filling

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the onion and garlic until soft. Add the ground beef and pork, cooking until browned. Stir in the diced potato, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 10 minutes until the potatoes are tender. Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir well. Add water as needed, then remove from heat and let cool.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Crust

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out two pie crusts (store-bought or homemade) to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Place one crust in the dish and fill it with the meat filling.

  3. 3

    Assemble and Bake

Cover with the second crust, sealing the edges. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.

  4. 4

    Serve

Let the tourtière cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with apple watercress salad and tomato jam on the side.
