For the Chocolate Lava Cake

Method

Instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with cocoa powder.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsweetened chocolate and unsalted butter. Heat in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until smooth and melted.

  3. 3

    Mix Sugar and Eggs

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, and egg yolks until well combined and slightly frothy.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture. Add vanilla extract, flour, and salt. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  6. 6

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  7. 7

    Cool and Serve

Let the cakes cool for 1 minute, then carefully invert each ramekin onto a dessert plate. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
