Mojito Cocktail
Method
Mojito Cocktail
- 1
Prepare glass and mint
Place 10 fresh mint leaves in a sturdy highball or Collins glass. Add 0.75 oz fresh lime juice and 0.75 oz simple syrup to the glass. Using a muddler (or the back of a spoon if needed), gently muddle the mint leaves with the lime juice and syrup for about 5–10 seconds — press just enough to bruise the leaves and release the oils, but avoid shredding them into tiny pieces which can make the drink bitter.
- 2
Add rum and ice
Add 2 oz white rum to the glass. Fill the glass about three-quarters full with crushed ice (about 1 cup). Stir gently with a bar spoon 6–8 times to combine and chill the ingredients while lifting the mint leaves through the drink so their aroma is evenly distributed.
- 3
Top with soda and finish
Top the drink with approximately 2 oz (or to taste) of chilled club soda. Give one gentle short stir to integrate the soda without flattening the carbonation. If desired, add 1 dash of Angostura bitters on top for a subtle aromatic note.
- 4
Garnish and serve
Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel on the rim and a small sprig of fresh mint. Clap the mint sprig lightly between your palms before garnishing to release its aroma. Serve immediately with a straw and enjoy.
