Prep and patties

  1. 1

In a bowl, gently combine ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a patty about 3/4 inch thick, making a shallow indent in the center to help them cook evenly.

  2. 2

Prepare toppings: wash lettuce leaves, rinse and slice tomato, and separate pickle slices. Slice cheese if needed to mirror bun size.

  3. 3

Toast the buns: In a skillet, melt the butter and lightly toast the cut sides of the buns until golden and fragrant. Set aside.

Cooking burgers

  1. 4

Cook patties: Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook patties for about 3–4 minutes on the first side until nicely browned.

  2. 5

Flip and melt cheese: Flip patties, place one cheese slice on each, and cook for another 3–4 minutes until the cheese melts and the burgers reach your desired doneness.

Assemble

  1. 6

Bottom bun: Spread a light layer of condiments on the bottom bun (ketchup, mustard, or mayo as you prefer).

  2. 7

Add toppings and patty: Layer lettuce on the bottom bun, followed by tomato and pickle slices. Place the cheesy patty on top.

  3. 8

Finish: Cap with the top bun and serve immediately.
