  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the sides for easy removal.

  2. 2

Prepare the brownie batter: Melt the 1/2 cup butter and whisk in the 1 cup granulated sugar until glossy. Beat in the 2 eggs, one at a time, then add the 2 tsp vanilla. Whisk in the 2/3 cup cocoa powder until smooth. Stir in the 1/2 cup flour, 0.25 tsp salt, and 0.25 tsp baking powder until just combined, then fold in the 1/2 cup chocolate chips.

  3. 3

Prepare the cookie dough: In a separate bowl, beat together the 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup brown sugar until creamy. Beat in the 1 egg and 1 tsp vanilla. Mix in the 1 1/4 cups flour, 0.5 tsp baking soda, and 0.25 tsp salt until a soft dough forms. Stir in the 3/4 cup chocolate chips.

  4. 4

Assemble the brookies: Spread the brownie batter in an even layer in the prepared pan. Drop the cookie dough by tablespoonfuls over the brownie batter. Use a knife to swirl the cookie dough into the brownie layer for a marbled effect.

  5. 5

Bake for 28–34 minutes, until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Avoid overbaking for fudgy centers.

  6. 6

Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack, then lift using the parchment and cut into 12–16 bars.
