Method
For the coffee
- 1
Measure and heat water
Measure 250 ml water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat and let sit 30 seconds so temperature falls to about 95–96°C (203–205°F).
- 2
Prepare coffee grounds
Measure 0.033 cups (approximately 8 grams) of medium-coarse ground coffee. This yields a brew ratio close to 1:31 (coffee:water) for a gentle daytime cup.
- 3
Bloom (if using pour over or French press)
Place the grounds in your brewer (pour-over cone, Aeropress, or French press). Pour just enough hot water (about 40–50 ml) to saturate the grounds evenly and let bloom for 30–45 seconds. This releases trapped gases and improves extraction.
- 4
Brew
Slowly pour the remaining hot water over the grounds in a steady spiral for pour-over (or add the rest to French press). Total contact time: 2:30–3:30 minutes for pour-over / 4 minutes for French press. For Aeropress follow device instructions with this water ratio.
- 5
Finish
If using a French press, plunge gently after 4 minutes. If using pour-over, allow the water to drip through completely. Transfer brewed coffee to a cup immediately to avoid over-extraction and bitterness.
Optional additions
- 6
Sweeten
If you like your coffee sweetened, stir in 1 teaspoon simple syrup (or sweetener of choice) into the hot brewed coffee until dissolved.

- 8
Flavor
Add 1/8 tsp vanilla extract and/or a light dusting (1/8 tsp) of ground cinnamon on top. Stir gently and taste; adjust to preference.
