Preparation
- 1
Cook the Gnocchi
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the potato gnocchi and cook according to package instructions, usually until they float to the surface (about 2-3 minutes). Drain and set aside.
- 2
Prepare the Sauce
In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and heat for a minute. Add the Italian sausage (removed from casing) and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
- 3
Add Garlic
Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- 4
Incorporate Tomatoes and Vodka
Add the crushed San Marzano tomatoes and vodka to the skillet. Stir to combine and let simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the alcohol to cook off.
- 5
Finish the Sauce
Stir in the heavy cream, salt, and black pepper. Allow the sauce to simmer for an additional 5 minutes, until it thickens slightly.
- 6
Combine Gnocchi with Sauce
Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet with the sauce. Gently toss to coat the gnocchi in the sauce. Cook for another 2 minutes to heat through.
- 7
Serve
Remove from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil. Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese.
