Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Potatoes

Place the russet potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender, about 20-25 minutes.

  2. 2

    Peel and Mash

Drain the potatoes and let them cool slightly. Peel the potatoes and mash them until smooth in a mixing bowl.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the flour, egg, salt, and nutmeg to the mashed potatoes. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 2-3 minutes until it is smooth and pliable.

  5. 5

    Shape Gnocchi

Divide the dough into four portions. Roll each portion into a long rope about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into 1-inch pieces and use a fork to create ridges on each piece.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Sauté Garlic

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 7

    Cook Tomatoes

Add the halved cherry tomatoes and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are softened and start to burst.

  3. 8

    Season the Sauce

Stir in the chopped basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and remove from heat.

Cooking Gnocchi

  1. 9

    Boil Gnocchi

In a large pot of boiling salted water, add the gnocchi. Cook until they float to the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon.

  2. 10

    Combine Gnocchi and Sauce

Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet with the tomato sauce. Gently toss to coat the gnocchi with the sauce.

  3. 11

    Serve

Plate the gnocchi and top with grated Parmesan cheese. Serve hot and enjoy!
