Method

Fried Chicken

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken thighs, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Flour Mixture

In another bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. This will be used for coating the chicken.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat and Fry the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess flour. Carefully place the chicken in the hot oil and fry for about 8-10 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

  5. 5

    Drain and Keep Warm

Once cooked, place the fried chicken on a wire rack over a baking sheet to drain excess oil. Keep in a warm oven until ready to serve.

Waffles

  1. 6

    Preheat the Waffle Iron

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  2. 7

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

  3. 8

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.

  4. 9

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; it’s okay if there are a few lumps.

  5. 10

    Cook the Waffles

Pour the batter into the preheated waffle iron, following the manufacturer's instructions for quantity. Cook until golden brown and crispy, about 5 minutes.

Serving

  1. 11

    Serve the Dish

On a plate, stack a waffle and place a piece of fried chicken on top. Drizzle with maple syrup to taste. Serve hot and enjoy!
