Pretzel Dough

Method

Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. Then, add melted butter and salt, and mix well.

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients

Gradually add flour, stirring until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.

  3. 3

    Let the Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  4. 4

    Shape the Pretzels

Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Once the dough has risen, divide it into 8 equal pieces, roll each piece into a long rope, and shape into a pretzel.

  5. 5

    Boil the Pretzels

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds on each side, then remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  6. 6

    Bake the Pretzels

Sprinkle coarse sea salt on top of each pretzel and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Add cheese, garlic powder, and salt, stirring until cheese is melted and smooth.

  8. 8

    Serve

Serve warm pretzels with cheese sauce for dipping.
