Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring water to a boil over high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.

  2. 2

    Cook Pasta

Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside, reserving about 1 cup of the pasta water.

Making the Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Garlic

In the same pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Add Fresh Basil

Once the sauce is simmering, tear in fresh basil leaves and stir to combine. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Combining

  1. 7

    Mix Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.

  2. 8

    Serve

Serve the pasta hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of red chili flakes.
