Preparing the Burger Patties

Mixing the Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until the ingredients are well combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Forming the Patties
Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Use your thumb to create a slight indentation in the center of each patty to help it cook evenly.

Flipping the Patties
Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each one. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium doneness, or until the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked to your desired level.
Assembling the Burger

Toasting the Buns
While the burgers are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

Layering the Ingredients
To assemble, spread mayonnaise on the bottom bun, followed by lettuce, a burger patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, onion slices, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
