Preparation
1. Prepare the Potatoes
Peel and cut the potatoes into uniform chunks to ensure even cooking. Rinse under cold water to remove excess starch.
2. Prepare the Garlic
Peel the garlic cloves. If you prefer a milder garlic flavor, you can roast the garlic beforehand.
Cooking
3. Boil the Potatoes
In a large pot, add the cut potatoes and enough water to cover them. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat and then reduce to a simmer. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
4. Cook the Garlic
In the last 5 minutes of boiling the potatoes, add the garlic cloves to the pot to soften them.
5. Drain and Mash
Once the potatoes and garlic are cooked, drain the water. Return the potatoes and garlic to the pot. Begin mashing the potatoes using a potato masher or a fork.
6. Add Butter and Milk
Once the potatoes are mashed to your desired consistency, add in the butter and milk. Mix until well combined and creamy.
7. Season
Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Adjust seasonings as needed.
Serving
8. Garnish (Optional)
For a touch of color and flavor, sprinkle chopped chives on top or serve with a dollop of sour cream.
9. Serve
Spoon the garlic mashed potatoes into a serving bowl and enjoy!
