Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Measure beans

Weigh 35 grams (0.035 kg) of whole coffee beans for a standard 12–16 fl oz (350–475 ml) pot. This yields about 2–3 standard cups; adjust proportionally for more or less coffee. The ratio here is roughly 1:15–1:16 coffee to water.

  2. 2

    Heat water

Bring 500 ml of filtered water to a boil, then remove from heat and let sit 30 seconds to 45 seconds so temperature drops to about 92–96°C (198–205°F), ideal for brewing.

  3. 3

    Grind beans

Grind the beans to the appropriate size for your brew method: medium-coarse for French press, medium for drip/pour-over, fine for espresso. Aim for uniform grind.

Brewing (Pour-over / Drip)

  1. 4

    Prepare filter

Place a paper filter in your pour-over dripper and rinse it with hot water to remove paper taste and preheat the dripper and carafe. Discard the rinse water.

  2. 5

    Add grounds

Place the ground coffee in the filter and level the bed gently.

  3. 6

    Bloom

Pour about twice the weight of the grounds in hot water (for 35 g grounds pour ~70 ml) evenly over the grounds to saturate them. Wait 30–45 seconds to allow degassing (bloom).

  4. 7

    Continue pouring

Slowly pour the remaining water in a steady spiral or pulse pours, keeping water level consistent and avoiding pouring directly on the filter. Total brew time should be 2.5–3.5 minutes for pour-over.

  5. 8

    Serve

When brewing is complete, remove the dripper, give the coffee a gentle swirl in the carafe or cup, and serve immediately.

Brewing (French Press alternative)

  1. 9

    Combine grounds and water

Add medium-coarse grounds to the French press, pour in hot water to saturate all grounds, and stir gently to ensure all grounds are wet.

  2. 10

    Steep

Place the lid on with the plunger pulled up and steep for 3.5–4 minutes (adjust to taste).

  3. 11

    Press and serve

Slowly press the plunger down with steady pressure and immediately pour the coffee into cups to avoid over-extraction.

Finishing & Customization

  1. 12

Taste the brewed coffee black first to evaluate body and acidity. Add optional ingredients to taste: sugar (1 tsp) or simple syrup (1 tsp) if you prefer sweetened coffee.

  2. 13

Add milk or milk alternative (about 2 tbsp / 0.125 cups) if you like a lightened coffee; heat or froth the milk if desired before adding.

  3. 14

For flavor variations, stir in 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon or 1/8 tsp vanilla extract. Adjust amounts to your preference.

  4. 15

Serve immediately. Leftover brewed coffee can be refrigerated for up to 48 hours but will lose aroma and freshness.
