Method
Preparing the Pork
- 1
Season the Pork
In a bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Rub this mixture all over the pork shoulder.
- 2
Slow Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour apple cider vinegar over the pork. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the meat is tender and easily pulls apart.
Finishing Touches
- 3
Pull the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and let it rest for about 10 minutes. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.
- 4
Mix with BBQ Sauce
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with BBQ sauce. Allow it to warm through for about 10-15 minutes.
Assembling the Sandwich
- 5
Prepare the Buns
While the pork is warming with the BBQ sauce, slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly if desired.
- 6
Assemble the Sandwiches
Place a generous portion of pulled pork on the bottom half of each bun. Top with coleslaw and pickles if desired. Place the top half of the bun on the sandwich.
