Method
Fried Pickles
- 1
Prepare the pickles
Drain the dill pickle slices thoroughly and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- 2
Prepare the batter
In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- 3
- 4
Combine dry and wet ingredients
Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- 5
Heat the oil
In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Coat the pickles
Dip each pickle slice into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.
- 7
Fry the pickles
Carefully place the battered pickles into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
- 8
Drain and serve
Remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
Ranch Dressing
- 9
Combine ingredients
In a medium bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 10
Mix until smooth
Whisk the ingredients together until the dressing is smooth and well combined.
- 11
Chill
Cover the ranch dressing and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
