Fried Green Tomatoes
Spicy Remoulade
Method
Fried Green Tomatoes
- 1
Prepare the Tomatoes
Wash the green tomatoes and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
- 2
Set Up Breading Stations
In three separate shallow bowls, place the all-purpose flour (seasoned with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper) in the first bowl, buttermilk in the second bowl, and cornmeal in the third bowl.
- 3
Coat the Tomatoes
Dredge each tomato slice in the flour, ensuring it is well-coated. Then dip it into the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat the tomato slice in cornmeal, pressing it gently to ensure the coating sticks.
- 4
Fry the Tomatoes
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot (about 350°F or 175°C), carefully place the breaded tomato slices into the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 5
Spicy Remoulade
- 6
Mix the Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, chopped capers, garlic powder, paprika, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well blended.
- 7
Chill the Remoulade
Cover the remoulade and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
