Method

Preparing the Burger Patties

  1. 1

Step 1: Prepare the Black Beans

Drain and rinse the black beans under cold water. In a large bowl, mash them with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

  2. 2

    Step 2: Combine Ingredients

Add the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper, and the egg to the mashed black beans. Mix until well combined. If the mixture is too wet, add more breadcrumbs until it holds together.

  3. 3

    Step 3: Form Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal parts and shape them into patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

  4. 4

    Step 4: Cook the Patties

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and heated through.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Step 5: Prepare the Bun

Toast the burger buns on the skillet until lightly browned, about 1-2 minutes.

  2. 6

    Step 6: Add Toppings

Spread chipotle mayo on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place a cooked black bean patty on top, followed by lettuce, sliced tomato, and sliced avocado.

  3. 7

    Step 7: Serve

Top with the other half of the bun, serve immediately, and enjoy your veggie burger!
