Preparing the Burger Patties

Step 1: Prepare the Black Beans
Drain and rinse the black beans under cold water. In a large bowl, mash them with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

Step 2: Combine Ingredients
Add the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper, and the egg to the mashed black beans. Mix until well combined. If the mixture is too wet, add more breadcrumbs until it holds together.

Divide the mixture into two equal parts and shape them into patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 5: Prepare the Bun
Toast the burger buns on the skillet until lightly browned, about 1-2 minutes.

Spread chipotle mayo on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place a cooked black bean patty on top, followed by lettuce, sliced tomato, and sliced avocado.

Top with the other half of the bun, serve immediately, and enjoy your veggie burger!
