Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Carefully stir in the boiling water and espresso powder until the batter is smooth.

Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cake
Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove them from the pans and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Prepare the Frosting
In a mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter on medium speed until creamy and smooth.

Gradually add the unsweetened cocoa powder and mix until well combined.

Stir in the vanilla extract until well incorporated.

Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread the whipped cocoa frosting evenly between the layers and on the top and sides of the cake.
