Cooking Directions
1. Prepare the Ingredients
Slice the tomato and wash the lettuce leaves. Set aside.
2. Sauté Onions and Mushrooms
In a skillet over medium heat, add a bit of oil and sauté 1 medium onion (sliced) and 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms until they are tender and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
3. Cook the Burger Patties
Form the ground beef into four equal patties. Season with salt and pepper. Grill or pan-fry the patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your preferred doneness.
4. Add Cheese
In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.
5. Assemble the Burger
Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun, place the lettuce, a slice of tomato, the burger patty with melted cheese, and top with sautéed onions and mushrooms. Place the top bun over the filling.
6. Serve
Serve immediately with your choice of sides.
