Fried Green Tomatoes
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Tomatoes
Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Pat them dry with a paper towel and set aside.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate bowls, place the all-purpose flour mixed with salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika in one; the buttermilk in another; and the cornmeal in the last.
- 3
Bread the Tomatoes
Dip each tomato slice first into the flour mixture, then into the buttermilk, and finally coat with cornmeal. Place the breaded tomatoes on a plate.
- 4
Fry the Tomatoes
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded tomatoes in batches, frying until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- 5
Prepare the Plate
On a serving platter, arrange the fried green tomatoes. Top each with a spoonful of BBQ tomato jam and a dollop of smoked gouda pimento cheese.
- 6
Finish with Garnish
Drizzle with bourbon sorghum and top with crispy kale before serving.
