1. Prepare the Oven and Pans

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Combine Wet Ingredients

Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.

4. Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

5. Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

6. Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

7. Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the butter on medium speed until creamy. Gradually add cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with milk and vanilla extract, until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.

8. Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the entire cake.
