Method
For the Mozzarella Sticks
- 1
Prepare the Cheese Sticks
Place the mozzarella cheese sticks in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm them up. This will help them maintain their shape during frying.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate shallow dishes, place the all-purpose flour in the first, whisk the eggs in the second, and combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in the third.
- 3
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of bread; if it sizzles, it's ready.
- 5
Fry the Sticks
Carefully add the breaded mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
For the Marinara Sauce

- 7
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
- 8
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the chopped fresh basil just before serving.
