Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Gravy
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, add the all-purpose flour to create a roux. Stir continuously for about 2-3 minutes until it turns golden brown.
- 2
Add Liquid
Gradually whisk in the beef broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook and stir until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
- 3
Season the Gravy
Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to the gravy. Mix well and let it simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Assembly
- 4
Toast the Bread
Lightly toast the white bread slices in a toaster or on a skillet until golden brown.
- 5
Assemble the Sandwich
Place a generous amount of sliced roast beef on four slices of the toasted bread.
- 6
Add Gravy
Spoon the homemade gravy generously over the roast beef, ensuring it is well-covered.
- 7
Top the Sandwich
Place the remaining toasted bread slices on top of the beef and gravy to complete the sandwich.
Serving
- 8
Serve Hot
Cut the sandwiches in half if desired and serve immediately while hot, with extra gravy on the side if preferred.
