Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing on medium speed until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Ganache Preparation

  1. 8

    Heat Cream

In a saucepan over medium heat, bring the heavy cream to a gentle simmer.

  2. 9

    Add Chocolate Chips

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let sit for 5 minutes to melt.

  3. 10

    Stir Until Smooth

Stir the mixture until the chocolate is completely melted and the ganache is smooth.

  4. 11

    Cool Ganache

Allow the ganache to cool slightly before using it to frost the cake.

Cake Assembly

  1. 12

    Frost the Cake

Place one layer of the cooled chocolate cake on a serving plate. Spread a layer of ganache on top, then place the second layer on top. Pour the remaining ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  2. 13

    Serve

Slice and serve the chocolate cake. Enjoy!
