Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Make the Dry Rub

In a bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Apply the Rub

Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, covering it completely. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Prepare the Cooking Liquid

In a bowl, mix together apple cider vinegar and water. This will be used to keep the pork moist during cooking.

  2. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

  3. 6

    Cook the Pork

Place the pork shoulder in a roasting pan. Pour the vinegar and water mixture over the meat. Cover the pan tightly with foil and place it in the preheated oven. Cook for approximately 4-5 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.

  4. 7

    Rest the Meat

Once cooked, remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for at least 30 minutes before shredding.

Serving

  1. 8

    Shred the Pork

Using two forks, shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 9

    Serve with BBQ Sauce

If desired, serve the pulled pork with BBQ sauce on the side or mixed in.
