Pulled Pork

Deep-Fried Hot Pickles

Farm-to-Market Egg Buns

Method

Pulled Pork

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Rub the pork butt with the pork rub generously, covering all sides. Place it in a slow cooker.

  2. 2

    Add Liquids

Pour the apple cider vinegar and water over the pork in the slow cooker.

  3. 3

    Cook the Pork

Cover and cook on low heat for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shredded with a fork.

  4. 4

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks. Return the shredded pork to the juices in the slow cooker to keep it moist.

Creamy Slaw

  1. 5

    Prepare the Vegetables

In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and shredded carrots.

  2. 6

    Make the Dressing

In another bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper until smooth.

  3. 7

    Combine Slaw and Dressing

Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrot mixture. Toss until all the vegetables are well coated.

  4. 8

    Chill the Slaw

Cover and refrigerate the slaw for at least 30 minutes before serving to meld flavors.

Table Sauce

  1. 9

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and salt until well mixed.

  2. 10

    Store the Sauce

Transfer the sauce to a jar or airtight container and refrigerate until ready to use.

Deep-Fried Hot Pickles

  1. 11

    Prepare Breading

In one bowl, place the flour. In a second bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk. In a third bowl, mix the cornmeal with salt and pepper.

  2. 12

    Bread the Pickles

Dip each pickle chip first in flour, then in the egg mixture, and finally in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring an even coating.

  3. 13

    Heat Oil

In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat until hot (about 350°F).

  4. 14

    Fry the Pickles

Fry the breaded pickles in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Assemble the Sandwich

  1. 15

    Prepare Buns

Lightly toast the egg buns if desired.

  2. 16

    Build the Sandwich

Layer the pulled pork on the bottom half of the bun, top with creamy slaw, and place a few deep-fried hot pickles on top.

  3. 17

    Finish and Serve

Drizzle with table sauce, place the top half of the bun on, and serve immediately.
