Waffle Batter

Candied Bacon

Homemade Blackberry Syrup

Sea Salt Butter

Method

Preparing the Waffle Batter

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar until well combined.

  2. 2

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold together until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Making Candied Bacon

  1. 4

    Prepare Bacon

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lay bacon strips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  2. 5

    Coat with Sugar and Pepper

Sprinkle brown sugar and black pepper evenly over the bacon strips.

  3. 6

    Bake Bacon

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until crispy and caramelized. Remove and let cool, then chop into pieces.

Making Blackberry Syrup

  1. 7

    Cook Blackberries

In a saucepan, combine fresh blackberries, sugar, and water over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the mixture comes to a boil.

  2. 8

    Simmer

Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 10-15 minutes, mashing the blackberries as they cook to release their juices.

  3. 9

    Strain and Finish

Remove from heat, strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove seeds, and stir in lemon juice. Set aside.

Making Sea Salt Butter

  1. 10

    Prepare Butter

Soften the stick of unsalted butter at room temperature. Mix in sea salt until well combined.

Cooking Waffles

  1. 11

    Preheat Waffle Iron

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  2. 12

    Cook Waffles

Pour the waffle batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions until golden brown and crispy.
