Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ginger Syrup

Peel and thinly slice the fresh ginger root. (Approximately 2 cups of sliced ginger).

  2. 2

    Cook the Ginger

In a saucepan, combine the sliced ginger, granulated sugar, and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has dissolved.

  3. 3

    Simmer the Mixture

Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 30 minutes. This will help to extract the ginger flavor.

  4. 4

    Strain the Syrup

After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat. Use a fine-mesh strainer to strain the syrup into a bowl, discarding the ginger pieces. Allow the syrup to cool.

  5. 5

    Add Lemon Juice

Once the ginger syrup is cool, stir in the 1 cup of lemon juice. Mix well to combine.

  6. 6

    Mix with Carbonated Water

In a pitcher, combine the ginger-lemon syrup with 4 cups of carbonated water. Stir gently to avoid losing the fizz.

  7. 7

    Serve the Ginger Ale

Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the ginger ale over the ice. Garnish with mint leaves if desired.
